Power Management and Control Companies looking for new ways to cut costs are realizing that sometimes to reduce your expenses you need to spend some money. Power Management gives back in return: bill verification, load shedding during demand peaks, and even in power quality analysis that can detect problems and save expensive equipment. There are a number of players in the power management field, probably including your local utility. However, as one one of our customers put it, "that's like leaving the fox to watch the hen-house!". Our Solutions use hardware and software from GE, specifically their Power Management and Control System line (GE PMCS for short). What is GE PMCS? GE PMCS is essentially a line of intelligent electronic meters and relays that can act, react, monitor, and record information and events. The system can be as simple as a single meter or encompass hundreds of devices. These devices communicate to a host computer which runs Cimplicity HMI, and GE PMCS software. This PC and software combo runs applications custom designed by us to do whatever is required, from simple monitoring and logging to complex load shedding schemes and beyond. In the right-hand column are some sample screens from a few GE PMCS projects that we have worked on. Two pictures are from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Bates Lab (completed using Wonderware InTouch). The other is from a Cimplicity project at a large rock pulverising facility. Unfortunately screen shots alone cannot do justice to the dynamic capabilities of these systems. |
